UN: A Continuous efforts to implement a truce in Yemen during Ramadan

On Sunday, the United Nations announced the continuation of efforts to implement a truce in Yemen during the holy month of Ramadan.

This came in a tweet by the office of the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, which he posted on his Twitter account.

Grundberg’s office said, “The UN Special Envoy for Yemen continues to communicate with all parties and to make efforts towards a truce during the month of Ramadan.”

“Grundberg renews his call for a halt to the escalation, and welcomes all steps taken by the parties in this direction,” the UN office added, without further details.

Since Friday, the Houthi group has escalated its strikes using ballistic and winged missiles and drones on vital installations in Saudi Arabia.

On the other hand, on Saturday, the Arab coalition carried out intense air raids on the group’s targets and sites in the capital, Sanaa (north) and Hodeidah (west).

Yemen has been witnessing for more than 7 years a continuous war between forces loyal to the legitimate government backed by an Arab military coalition led by the neighboring Saudi Arabia.

And the Iranian-backed Houthis who have controlled governorates, including the capital, Sanaa, since September 2014.
