After laying a wreath at the shrine, Christerson observed a minute’s silence and then posed for a photo.

Christerson then went with his entourage to the National Pact Tower, where he wrote a message in the shrine notebook.

In his message, he said, “It is a great honor for me to visit the Republic of Turkey, which (Ataturk) founded nearly 100 years ago.”

He added: “Your photos taken with then Crown Prince Gustav Adolf at the opening of the Swedish embassy in Ankara in 1934 remind me of how old our close ties are.”

He expressed his wishes to deepen the mutual relations between the two countries.
