The lava from the first active volcano in La Palma 50 years ago has destroyed more than a thousand homes so far.

The lava has reached a depth of at least 35 meters in the Atlantic Ocean, where it has flowed since September 28.

While at least 6,200 people have been evacuated from their homes in the area, a partial quarantine has been taken in some municipalities, affecting 3,500 people due to increased air pollution.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said they would take new measures against the damage caused by the volcano in the region.

“We will decide on a very strong emergency aid package of 206 million euros in connection with the rebuilding of infrastructure,” Sanchez said.

In addition to the problem of water supply, road connections, employment or agriculture, and other sectors, we will provide prosperity and future prospects for the island.”
