The head of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Serkan Kayalar, announced that the agency resumed its activities in Syria following the fall of the Baath regime.
Kayalar stated that TİKA implemented about 150 projects in different cities inside Syria between 1995 and 2011.
He pointed out that the TİKA office in Damascus began providing its services in March 2010, and was forced to suspend its work in November 2011 with the outbreak of clashes in the country.
He stated that TİKA continued its support for the Syrian people during the years of conflict, and implemented many development and humanitarian aid projects to meet the needs of the Syrians.
He pointed out that with the end of the conflict environment in the country, a new phase of calm and stability began that allows for reconstruction.
He said that TİKA took quick measures and began working by sending its teams to the field, adding: “The agency’s office in Damascus is scheduled to reopen as soon as possible.”
On December 8, Syrian factions took control of the capital, Damascus, days after taking control of other cities, thus ending 61 years of rule by the bloody Baath Party regime and 53 years of rule by the Assad family.
