Turkey has become the preferred destination for medical tourism

The President of the Thermal Health and Tourism Association (TESTUD) Yavuz Yılık said that one million and 300 thousand visitors chose Turkey last year for medical tourism.

Yılık provided information about medical tourism in 2020, when the Coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic emerged.

Health services in Turkey in 2019 reached 700 thousand patients, most of whom came from Iraq and Azerbaijan.

And the medical tourism income from international arrivals to Turkey in 2019 amounted to one billion, 65 million and 105 thousand dollars.

Yılık also said that in 2020, there was an increase in the number of patients coming from abroad to receive health care services in Turkey due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus epidemic compared to the previous year.

Yavuz Yelik stated:

Last year, one million and 300 thousand patients chose Turkey to receive health care.

In 2020, Turkey was the first in the healthcare field in terms of the number of international patients.

In addition, the health tourism income from foreign visitors coming for tourism and medical reasons reached one billion, 978 million and 52 thousand dollars in 2020. “

Noting that Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Izmir, Erzurum and Van are the leading cities preferred by international patients.

The clinical branches most preferred by international patients are gynecology, ophthalmology, thoracology, general surgery, internal medicine, orthopedics and traumatology.

He said that there are medical departments for oncology, heart diseases, ear, nose and throat and urology.

Health tourism increased in Turkey during the first months of 2021.
