The Turkish authorities seized tens of thousands of gold and antique coins belonging to various personalities in a security operation in the southeastern state of Şanlıurfa.
The statement of the state of Şanlıurfa on Saturday said that the anti-smuggling and organized crime teams of the police carried out an operation in the Ayyubid district to arrest people suspected of smuggling antiquities.
He added that the operation resulted in the seizure of 52,994 coins and 52 artifacts belonging to different personalities, in addition to 39,202 forged gold coins and equipment used to mint gold.
