The “Pamukkale” tourist area in the state of Denizli, western Turkey, received 229,897 tourists during the first quarter of this year.

The head of the Association of Hotel and Tourist Establishments Operators in Denizli, Gazi Murad Shen, said that the number of tourists increased by 100,000 during the aforementioned period compared to the same period last year.

Shen indicated that the rise was achieved despite the cancellation of all hotel reservations following the catastrophic earthquake that hit southern Turkey on February 6.

“We entered the new year with high hopes for the tourist season, but our hopes and expectations were somewhat eroded after the earthquake disaster,” he added.

He pointed out that tourism companies and establishments are continuing their preparations for a tourism season that will revitalize the region.

The “Pamukkale” region in the state of Denizli, southwestern Turkey, received about two million tourists between January 1 and last November.

This came in the words of the head of the Association of Operators of Hotels and Tourist Establishments in Denizli, Gazi Murad Shen, in statements he made on Monday.

Shen pointed out that the number of tourists coming to Pamukkale in the first 11 months of this year is pleasing.

He pointed out that the number of visitors to Pamukkale during the aforementioned period amounted to one million and 906 thousand and 5 visitors, expressing his confidence that their number would reach two million by the end of the year.

It should be noted that last year the region received 1,200,650 tourists.

Hot air balloons are an important part of tourism in the Pamukkale region, which is described as the “white paradise” and is famous for its white limestone rocks, thermal springs and monuments.

Pamukkale in the southwestern state of Denizli got acquainted with hot air balloon flights for the first time in 2012 through experimental tours, and a year later it launched the first regular commercial flight in the region.

With the increase in demand for these balloons, daily tours increased to 40, operated by 19 companies.

Hot air balloons take off with their passengers in the early hours of the morning almost every day, with the exception of windy and stormy days. Between 500 and 750 visitors per day witness the sunrise in Pamukkale with hot air balloon rides.

Abdullah Kaya, head of the Turkish Aviation Association, said that the first World Air Games in Cappadocia (center) in 1997 was a turning point in tourism, especially those related to hot air balloon tours in the country.

Kaya stressed that the hot air balloon contributed greatly to the development of tourism and the introduction of the natural beauty of the Pamukkale region.

He explained that the Turkish Aviation Association conducted research on the possibility of taking off hot air balloons in Pamukkale and whether the weather conditions are suitable for such tours.

He added that the test flights began in the region in 2012 and then were officially launched in 2013.
