On Wednesday, the Tuzla region of Istanbul witnessed the opening ceremony of the first logistics center for the global e-commerce company Amazon, with the participation of high-level officials.

The opening was attended by Mustafa Varank, Chairman of the Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Committee of the Turkish Parliament, and Zekeriya Chostu, Turkish Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology and Head of the Investment Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, Burak Daglioglu.

Stefano Perego, Vice President of Amazon Operations in Europe and North America, Hakan Karadogan, General Manager of Amazon Operations in Turkey, and Richard Marriott, Director of Amazon in Turkey, also attended.

Amazon’s logistics center, which is the first in Turkey, is located in the Tuzla region, located on the Asian side of Istanbul, overlooking the Sea of Marmara.

The value of the logistics center’s investment amounts to $100 million, according to a previous statement by the company.

In a speech during the ceremony, Varank, a representative of the ruling Justice and Development Party, said that e-commerce continues to develop with great momentum in the world.

Varank pointed out that Turkey enjoys a competitive climate in terms of logistics services, and that the development of e-commerce will contribute to the development of other sectors in the country.

He revealed that 600,000 companies in Turkey are currently practicing e-commerce.

He explained that the rate of online orders reached 5 billion Turkish liras over the past year (the dollar is equivalent to about 27.5 liras).

The head of the Turkish Presidency’s Investment Office, Burak Daglioğlu, said that Turkey’s economy is growing rapidly and is transforming into digitalization.

Daglioğlu stressed that the principles of sustainability have become fundamental in all investments for his country.

He pointed out that the investment made by Amazon is consistent with Turkey’s strategy and aspirations.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that his country will launch the first high-precision observation satellite (İMECE), produced with local and national capabilities, into space on April 11.

This came in a statement published by Erdogan on his social media sites on Sunday.

Erdogan made it clear that Turkey will continue its efforts to stay in the global space race thanks to its trained human resources, the opportunities it offers and the technologies it develops.

The High Precision Observation Satellite (İMECE) was developed by the Turkish Space Technology Research Institute (TUBITAK).

It is scheduled that the satellite launch ceremony will be organized the day after tomorrow, Tuesday, at the institute’s headquarters in the capital, Ankara, with the participation of President Erdogan, via video conferencing technology, and Ministers of Defense Hulusi Akar and Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank.

The weight of the satellite, which will be launched from the US Vandenberg base, is about 700 kilograms.

Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank said that the losses of the industrial sector in the affected areas as a result of the earthquake are estimated at 170 billion Turkish liras (equivalent to 9 billion dollars).

This came in a statement issued by the ministry on Sunday, which included Minister Warank’s statements.

The statement indicated that the specialized teams have completed counting the losses of infrastructure, superstructure and equipment used in the industrial sector in the earthquake areas.

The statement added that the Ministry of Industry continues to work to find solutions to all the problems that the industrial sector suffers from in the earthquake zones.

Minister Warank stressed that the Turkish government will continue to support investment in the industrial sector in the areas affected by the earthquake.

On February 6, 2023, two successive earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 hit southern Turkey and northern Syria, followed by thousands of violent aftershocks, which left great losses in lives and property.

On Thursday, the Turkish capital, Ankara, hosted the fourth meeting of the joint committee for economic and technical cooperation between Turkey and Thailand.

The meeting took place in the presence of Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank and Thailand’s Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai.

Varank and Pramudwinai signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between Turkey and Thailand.

The meeting also witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Thai Agency for International Cooperation.

In a speech during the meeting, Pramodwinay referred to his country’s consensus with Turkey on many issues around the world.

He said that the two countries can cooperate in the field of food security by mutually increasing agricultural exports and halal products.

He explained that Thailand could become a production center for Turkey and that trade should be free, efficient, sustainable and balanced.

Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank announced that his country occupies the third place among the largest producers of solar panels in the world and aims to rise to the second place.

This came in a speech he delivered on Saturday during his participation in the inauguration ceremony of a factory for the production of solar panels in the Organized Industrial Zone in the state of Qirikkale in central Turkey.

“Turkey is currently the third largest producer of solar panels in the world,” Varank said. “We are currently producing about 8 gigawatts of solar panels.”

Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank stated that his country has reached a record level in the “Global Innovation Index”.

Varank explained in a tweet on “Twitter” Thursday that Turkey rose 14 degrees in the past two years and ranked 37th in the world out of 132 countries.

He stressed that the research, development and innovation system established by Turkey 20 years ago continues to achieve new successes.

The innovation index measures innovation performance in countries through innovation inputs and outputs based on institutions, workforce, infrastructure, market and business development, knowledge output, technology and creativity.

The Global Innovation Index ranks the innovation performance of 132 countries and economies around the world using more than 80 indicators.

This report, co-published by Cornell University and the European Institute of Business Administration, provides an annual ranking of the capabilities and performance of economies in innovation globally.

Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology, Mustafa Varank, Minister of State for Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates, Thani Al-Zeyoudi, met in the capital, Ankara.

And that the meeting, which took place in the Information Technology Valley in Ankara, was also attended by officials from the Ministry of Trade and the Investment Office of the Presidency of the Republic in Turkey.

The two sides discussed ways of mutual investment between the two countries, particularly those related to petrochemicals and renewable energy, and ways of cooperation in the fields of innovation, research and development, and the establishment of technology parks and joint industrial zones.
