On Monday, the United Nations condemned the attack that targeted a diplomatic vehicle carrying the Turkish ambassador to Khartoum, Ismail Chopanoglu.

This came in the response of the organization’s deputy spokesman, Farhan Haq, to a question about the attack that targeted the Turkish ambassador’s convoy on Saturday.

Haq said, “We condemn all forms of attacks against diplomatic personnel, including the attack that targeted the Turkish diplomatic convoy over the weekend.”

He pointed out the need for a detailed investigation to uncover the circumstances of such attacks.

On Sunday, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the attack on the convoy of the Turkish ambassador to Khartoum, and accused the Rapid Support Forces of carrying it out.

On the other hand, the Rapid Support Forces denied the accusation and said in a statement via Twitter that they “were able to evacuate the ambassador and his delegation to a safe place.”

And Turkish diplomatic sources reported on Saturday that the embassy car in the convoy of Ambassador Choban Oglu came under fire.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu confirmed that there were no injuries to any of the ambassador, guards or special forces.

Since last April 15, clashes have continued in states in Sudan between the army and the “rapid support” forces, in which the two sides exchanged accusations of being responsible for them, after teams affiliated with each went to control centers belonging to the other.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu discussed with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres the “zero waste” project and the grain corridor agreement.

This came during a phone call between them on Sunday, according to a statement published by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

The statement indicated that the call dealt with the “Zero Waste” project, which was launched at the United Nations under Turkish sponsorship, and the grain shipping agreement across the Black Sea.

On July 22, 2022, Istanbul witnessed the signing of the “Initiative Document for Safe Shipping of Grains and Foodstuffs from Ukrainian Ports” between Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations.

The agreement included securing stranded grain exports in Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea (eastern Europe) to address the global food shortage, which threatens a humanitarian catastrophe.

On September 20, 2022, the wife of the Turkish President, Amina Erdogan, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations signed a statement of good intent to spread the “Zero Waste” project in the world.

The project is based on changing the consumption habits of citizens, separating waste from the source, and then recycling it, with the aim of reaching 60 percent of waste recycling by 2030.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that his country will continue to do what it entails to support the least developed countries.

This came in a speech at the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries in Doha, where Çavuşoğlu participated on behalf of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In his speech at the opening session, Çavuşoğlu conveyed President Erdogan’s greetings to the conference participants.

He pointed out that President Erdogan would very much like to be in Doha today, but he stayed in Turkey because he was busy following up on business after the earthquake disaster that occurred in Turkey on February 6.

He noted that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan considers the sustainable development of the least developed countries a top priority.

Çavuşoğlu pointed out that Turkey has been a strong supporter of the least developed countries for a long time and will continue to do its responsibilities in this regard.

On the other hand, Çavuşoğlu appreciated the sincere international solidarity that Turkey felt in the aftermath of the earthquake disaster.

He pointed out that the least developed countries were among the first countries to provide support to Turkey and show solidarity with it during the difficult days it went through.

He stressed that the helping hand that extended to Turkey from those countries represented a great sacrifice, and that the Turkish people would not forget that.

“Your solidarity after the earthquake showed once again that you are the most heartily developed country,” he added.
