Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced a temporary ceasefire in the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv, Mariupol, Kharkiv and Sumy, starting at 10:00 Moscow time, in order to evacuate civilians.

At the dawn of last February 24, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, which was followed by angry international reactions and the imposition of “tough” economic and financial sanctions on Moscow.

Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin confirmed President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s continued efforts to bring together his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts, Volodymyr Zelensky, with the aim of finding a solution to the crisis between the two countries.

In a press statement in Istanbul on Saturday, Kalin pointed out the important role that Turkey plays in de-escalation between Russia and Ukraine.

He noted President Erdogan’s continued efforts to resolve the crisis between Moscow and Kiev, adding, “President Erdogan’s proposal to bring together the leaders of Russia and Ukraine is in fact the most important and realistic proposal to overcome this crisis.”

He confirmed that Erdogan proposed to meet with Zelensky during his recent visit to Ukraine, and presented the same proposal to Putin during a telephone conversation between them.

Kalin added that Erdogan will call Putin in the next few days, and the proposal will be presented to him again.

He said that preparations are continuing for Putin’s visit to Turkey, adding, “We are in constant contact with our Russian counterparts.”

“Dialogue and diplomacy should be prioritized in order to resolve the Ukraine issue, and reciprocal steps should be taken to reduce tension,” he added.

The Turkish presidential spokesman stressed that the crisis in Ukraine will negatively affect everyone.

Relations between Kiev and Moscow were strained against the backdrop of Russia’s illegal annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea and its support for separatists loyal to it in the Donbass.

Recently, Western countries accused Russia of amassing its forces near the Ukrainian border, while Washington threatened to impose sanctions on Moscow in the event of an attack on Kiev.

After the meeting between Erdogan and Biden on the sidelines of the NATO summit last month, the continuation of constructive and strategic cooperation between the two countries was emphasized.

Turkey and the United States recently discussed security cooperation in Afghanistan.

Accordingly, Ankara offered to provide security for Kabul airport after the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan, which was welcomed by the United States.

But the Taliban denied the allegations, saying that according to an agreement reached between the US and the group in Doha, all US and NATO forces must withdraw from Afghanistan.

The Taliban had warned Turkey that if it did not leave Afghanistan, it would treat them like occupiers.

Yesterday (Sunday) Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin described US President Joe Biden’s recent statements regarding recognition of the Armenian Genocide as “extremely shameful” and warned that Turkey would respond in the coming months.

The US President recognized the Armenian Genocide during the Ottoman rule on Saturday evening and said, “We reaffirm our commitment to prevent such an event.”

The President of the United States continued his statement by announcing the slaughter of 1.5 million Armenians on April 24, 1915 by the Ottoman Empire.

“In the coming days and months, we will have different forms, types and degrees of reaction,” Kalin told Reuters in a sharp response.

However, a spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not mention whether Ankara intends to restrict US access to the Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey in response to Biden’s comments.

Kalin added that Erdogan intends to address the issue after the cabinet meeting today (Monday).

“We will respond to this unpleasant and unfair statement at the appropriate time and place,” the Turkish diplomat said.

According to Kalin, the Turkish parliament intends to issue a statement on Biden’s remarks this week.

A spokesman for the Turkish presidency: All actions between Turkey and the United States will be affected by this very disturbing statement.

According to Kalin, Erdogan warned Biden in a phone call last Friday that recognizing the Armenian Genocide would be a big mistake for the United States.

“It is said that the Turks, our Ottoman ancestors, were involved in a genocide, and this is a shame,” he explained. “The facts of history do not support such a thing.”

Turkey’s anger at Biden’s remarks on the Armenian Genocide prompted the Turkish Foreign Ministry to summon the US ambassador to Ankara, David Sutherfield.

“It is clear that these statements have no legal or scientific basis and do not have any documentary support,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

As for the events of 1915, there is no requirement to use the term “genocide” as stipulated in international law.

Biden recognized the Armenian Genocide a week ago, when more than 100 members of Congress wrote a letter to the President urging him to formally describe the events of 1915 as a “genocide.”

Biden’s statement on Saturday will have no legal implications for Turkey, and even if the State Department issues an official statement, it will not have sanctions or consequences for Ankara.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu wrote in a message on Twitter minutes after Biden’s statement recognizing the Armenian Genocide:

“Words cannot change or rewrite history.”

We have nothing to learn from anybody on our own past. Political opportunism is the greatest betrayal to peace and justice.

We entirely reject this statement based solely on populism.

According to local news agencies: The Turkish presidency stated that its position on the purchase of the Russian S-400 missile system has not changed.

Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said, in statements to TRT, on Thursday evening, that the country will not back down from its position on the purchase of the Russian S-400 system.

Whereas, after the United States refused to deliver the Patriot systems to Turkey, Turkish officials started a deal to purchase the Russian S-400 missile system, which caused tensions between Ankara and Washington.

The United States has suspended Ankara from the production project to punish Turkey, under the pretext of revealing the secrets and codes of its F-35 fighter jets with these systems.

According to the T-24 news site, Kalin also talked about his country’s relations with the United States. With Biden coming to power, the presidents of the two countries are likely to speak in the coming days.

Erdogan’s spokesman referred to the differences between Turkey and the United States, and said that the country should not support the Syrian militias (PKK), which are part of the Kurdistan Workers Party, and end this support.

Kalin supported his country’s position on Cyprus, the two-state solution on the island and the change in the Turkish constitution, saying that one of the shortcomings of the country’s political system is that it has not been able to formulate a civil constitution since 1950.

Recently, Erdogan said that it is time to change the Turkish constitution according to the law and the presidential system.

Turkey has announced the suspension of education in primary, elementary, secondary and universities, as part of measures taken to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus in the country.

This came from Turkish presidential spokesman, İbrahim Kalın, in a press conference he held following an emergency meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss measures taken to tackle the Coronavirus.

Kalın said that the primary, secondary, and secondary schools in the three phases will be closed for a week, starting next Monday, March 16th, provided that education is resumed after that for a week via the Internet or television, without going to schools.

As for universities and institutes, it was decided to suspend the study for a period of 3 weeks, starting from March 16 (next Monday), and a new decision will be issued after the specified period has passed, about whether education will resume or the vacation will be extended.

It was also decided to hold all sports competitions without an audience, until the end of next April.

Kalın also advised his country’s citizens not to travel outside the country, except in cases of extreme necessity, stating that Turkey would subject every person coming from abroad to quarantine for a period of 14 days.
