Turkish Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek said on Monday that his country’s situation is much better than many developing countries, and that the ratio of public debt to national income in Turkey is less than half the emerging market average.

This came during the “Conservatives-Turkey Dialogue” session within the framework of the annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank held in Riyadh on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of its founding.

Şimşek mentioned in his speech that they have established a reliable financial framework to support the fight against inflation in Turkey.

He reported that public finances are improving despite the effects of the earthquake that struck the country in February last year.

He explained that Turkey’s public debt to national income ratio is 29.5 percent, less than half the emerging market average.

Şimşek emphasized that fiscal discipline is one of the basic pillars of Turkey’s medium-term economic program.

The Turkish minister also pointed out that his country has a “very comprehensive structural reform agenda.”

In response to a question about the interest policies of global central banks and emerging markets, Şimşek said, “There are very few developing countries that have a good story at the moment, and Turkey has a great story.”

He added, “The story is the structural transformation of our country. Turkey’s program aims to ensure price stability, but it is not limited to this alone. There is also a comprehensive structural reform program.”

He continued: “We are determined to invest in human resources, improve the investment environment, and implement public finance reform.”

He also pointed out that the digital transformation is no less important than the green transformation, adding: “We will take the necessary steps regarding this twin transformation.”

He pointed out that the trend of future policies of banks such as the US Federal Reserve or the European Central Bank towards flexibility would improve financial conditions.

Şimşek pointed out that countries such as Turkey want to attract more investments, and pointed to “an increase in investors’ appetite for risk.”

He explained that global financial expansion also means a potentially supportive environment for global growth.

He added, “Strong global growth means a further increase in risk appetite.”

He pointed out that “the rise in risk appetite clearly benefits emerging markets, and Turkey is one of them.”

The only nationally published newspaper in Switzerland said in a report prepared by journalist Wolfgang Gomol that the T10X TOGG car has become a Turkish landmark.

“The electric car impresses with its digital ecosystem, where AI can create radio playlists,” the report said. “But its driving and charging performance are also impressive, as our test drive showed.”

The report included praise for the TOGG car, describing it as “the Turkish Tesla.”

It pointed out that it has a large screen in the cockpit, and its own operating system has been developed, including an application store.

In addition to the praised driving characteristics, the report pointed out that the TOGG’s range reaches 468 km.

The report pointed out that when it comes to recharging, the TOGG can easily keep up with competitors such as “Skoda Eniac” or “Tesla” and in some cases even surpass them.

It stated that the TOGG (T10X) cars are expected to arrive in Germany at the end of the year, but the date of their arrival in Switzerland is unclear.

It also pointed out that it is expected that one million TOGG cars will be on European roads by 2032.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday opened the second runway at Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, located in the Asian side of Istanbul.

Erdogan explained in his speech during the opening ceremony that with the start of operation of the second runway, the airport will have the capacity to host more than 85 million passengers annually.

He added that by the end of this year, the number of airport passengers will reach 37 million, with this number rising to 63 million passengers by 2030.

He pointed out that they aim to open Çukurova Airport next month in the state of Adana in the south of the country, pointing out that the residents of the states of Adana and Mersin are eager for the opening of the project.

Erdogan pointed out that Sabiha Airport hosted nearly 25 million passengers in 2021 through 181,000 flights, adding that the number reached 31 million passengers in 2022.

He stated that Sabiha Airport is the third airport in Turkey with the largest number of flights after Istanbul and Antalya airports.

Erdogan explained that in order to provide maximum air traffic capacity at the airport, the new runway will be used for landing and the old runway for take-off.

He added: “Therefore, with the start of operation of the new runway, the airport will have the capacity to host more than 85 million passengers annually.”

Erdogan stated that the number of active airports in the country increased from 26 to 57 airports, in addition to the expansion of the capacity of passenger lounges from 55 million to 337 million and 450 thousand passengers.

The Turkish President pointed out that the number of foreign destinations increased from 283 to 343 destinations in 130 countries, in addition to the increase in the aircraft fleet from 489 aircraft to 1,813 aircraft during the last twenty years.

The Turkish city of Istanbul includes 3 airports: Sabiha Gökçen on the Asian side, and Istanbul and Ataturk International on the European side, and the latter was designated only for flights of cargo aircraft and private and government aircraft after moving to Istanbul Airport in April 2019.

The European press devoted extensive space to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s meeting with his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz, as part of his visit to the capital, Berlin.

On Friday, President Erdogan made a one-day working visit to Berlin, during which he met with Steinmeier and Scholz.

The German newspaper “Bild” published an analytical article under the title “Erdogan is playing a game of carrot and stick with Scholz.”

The newspaper said in it, “Erdogan accused Israel of destroying Gaza, killing 13,000 Palestinians, and bombing places of worship, churches, and hospitals.”

It pointed out that “Erdogan was a mediator between Russia and Ukraine in the grain corridor.”

It stressed that “the Turkish President has always publicly opposed anti-Semitism,” and that “he does not owe Israel a debt regarding the Holocaust (the Nazi Holocaust against the Jews).”

During a press conference with Scholz, Erdogan indicated that he was speaking “with ease because Turkey is not indebted to Israel.”

He said, “If we were in debt, we would not be able to speak so comfortably, but those who are in debt cannot speak comfortably.”

Erdogan stressed that he “took a stance against anti-Semitism when he was prime minister when no prime minister in the world had taken it, so he is not beholden to anyone.”

The second German television, “Bloody ZDF,” broadcast a news item entitled: “Partly very different viewpoints,” in which it pointed out that “differences in opinion regarding the Middle East appeared in the press conference between Scholz and Erdogan.”

For its part, Radio France Internationale (RFI) said in its news headline, “Erdogan’s tense visit to Berlin: Germany and Turkey need each other,” that “Turkey is an important ally.”

French radio pointed out that “Western powers have assigned a role to Turkey in order to prevent the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.”

As for the French newspaper Le Figaro, it covered the joint press conference between Erdogan and Schulz with the title: “Erdogan said he is a leader fighting anti-Semitism in Berlin.”

The Dutch newspaper “The Telegraph” noted that “Erdogan strongly criticized Israel during his visit to Berlin.”

It is worth noting that Erdogan said that “Israel has so far killed 13,000 Palestinians, most of them children, women and the elderly, and destroyed everything there, and almost no place called Gaza remains as a result of its attacks.”

While the British Broadcasting Corporation “BBC” published a news item that included Erdogan’s statement during his visit to Berlin, in which he said, “Germany must work with Turkey to ensure a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.”

European volunteers prepare hot meals and distribute them to the victims of the earthquake that struck Turkey about two weeks ago.

The volunteer team consists of 6 individuals headed by Victor Rogalev, who originally works in the voluntary field of feeding the homeless and university students in the British capital, London.

“When I heard about the earthquake, I immediately called my friend who lives in the Czech Republic and suggested that he go to Turkey and provide hot food to the afflicted,” with these words Rogalev showed his donation to help the earthquake victims.

Rogalev said that he quickly went out alone from London in his car, and on the way he passed a Czech to bring his friend with him, and they arrived in Turkey.

He indicated that he realized the hardship of the work, so he started calling other friends, as they were joined by 4 new volunteers.

He added, “We came to help people, and we provided hot food to those affected by the earthquake in Sanliurfa for 5 days, then we moved to its neighbor Adi Yaman.”

Rogalev expressed his team’s readiness to stay in Turkey and distribute hot food to those affected by the earthquake for a period of two months, if necessary.

Regarding the quality of the food provided, he pointed out that the volunteer team usually prepares vegetable meals. However, during this short period, the team was able to learn local meals to join the list of foods offered to people in the region.

Expressing his happiness in helping the distressed, Rogalev said: “Our meals were liked by people, and this made us very happy.”

He continued, “For 3 decades, we have been working in preparing and distributing food to the homeless and university students in London, and during a period the idea came to form this volunteer team to feed disaster-stricken people, and we started our first volunteer work from Turkey.”

On February 6, a double earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, the first measuring 7.7 degrees and the second 7.6 degrees, and thousands of violent aftershocks, which left great losses in lives and property in both countries.
