The US State Department confirmed that it has close relations with the Turkish government, adding that Ankara is “a valuable ally for us.”

This was stated by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller in his daily press conference while responding to a question about the extent of Washington’s concern that the sanctions imposed on Turkish companies would negatively affect Sweden’s membership in NATO.

In this regard, he said: “I do not think that the sanctions imposed on Turkish companies will have any impact on Sweden’s membership in NATO.”

He added: “We have constructive and close relations with the Turkish government. Turkey is a valuable ally for us and President Joe Biden recently met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.”

Miller stated that the sanctions imposed on Turkish companies have nothing to do with Sweden’s membership in NATO and that Ankara was informed of the American interest in Stockholm joining NATO.

It is noteworthy that the US Treasury Department announced earlier the inclusion of 3 companies based in Turkey and a Turkish citizen on the sanctions list under the pretext of supporting Russia in avoiding the sanctions imposed on it.

Spot gold prices held steady at the beginning of weekly trading on Monday, despite the official announcement of an initial agreement to end the debt ceiling crisis in the United States.

And at dawn Sunday, US President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy reached a preliminary agreement to end the US debt ceiling crisis that has been going on for more than two months.

“The negotiating teams will put the final touches on the legislative text, and the agreement will go to the country’s House of Representatives and Senate,” the White House said in a statement on Sunday.

In early trading today, spot gold prices rose by 0.15 percent, or two dollars, to $1,947 an ounce, compared to the closing of Friday’s session.

Despite reaching an agreement to end the debt ceiling crisis that would lead to a decline in risks, which is a suitable environment for the rise of gold prices, the yellow metal still benefits from high global demand, especially from China.

Likewise, gold prices benefit from analysts’ estimates indicating a rise in its prices during the current year above $2,100 an ounce, with the possibility of the end of the monetary tightening cycle by the US Federal Reserve.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that his country will host in 2024 the Sixteenth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity.

This came in a speech via video call, Thursday, during the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate, at the invitation of US President Joe Biden.

Erdogan thanked Biden for his determination to keep this important issue on the agenda and for inviting him to the forum, as well as their support for Turkey in its struggle against the earthquake that struck the south of the country last February.

He pointed out that the flood disaster that occurred in the same region after the earthquake left the country once again facing the devastating effects of climate change, stressing that Turkey had applied the national risk shield model to make the country more resilient in the face of all disasters.

He said, “Turkey will host in 2024 the Sixteenth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, and in this way it will assume the rotating presidency of the Convention for a period of two years.”

US President Joe Biden left Saudi Arabia without the minimum expectations of global energy markets, which suggested that they would accept his call to increase oil production in order to calm the markets.

No statements related to the global energy market were issued by the Gulf states, with the exception of Saudi Arabia – the godmother of the “OPEC” alliance – specifically Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

In the final statement of the Jeddah Summit for Security and Development, it was reported that the leaders praised the existing efforts of “OPEC” to achieve stability in global oil markets, in a manner that serves the interests of producers and consumers, and supports economic growth.

The leaders welcomed the recent decision of OPEC members to increase production for the months of July and August, and expressed their appreciation for the leading role of Saudi Arabia in achieving consensus among the coalition countries.

American media, along with investment bank strategists there, began talking about Biden’s failure to obtain oil commitments from Gulf leaders during the Arab summit in Jeddah.

American energy markets are aware that the main objective of his visit to the Gulf states is to ask their leaders to continue pumping more oil, which would lead to lower gas prices in the United States.

Biden fears that rising fuel prices in the US market will bring him down during the midterm elections scheduled for later November.

It is sufficient for the US Energy Information Administration to publish oil price developments during the era of the last 3 American presidents to show the sharp increase during Biden’s term, a black mark in his current era.

Saudi Arabia has made it clear through the Saudi Crown Prince and on the air that it will not be able in the future to increase production above 13 million barrels per day.

Currently, Saudi Arabia’s production is about 11 million barrels, and it has an immediate ability to increase production to 12 million barrels, and about 13 million barrels per day by 2027, after the completion of the current development work.

And while the pro-Biden American media saw Saudi statements about increasing production to 13 million barrels per day as a victory for the president, in reality it is not.

On May 16, 2022, Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said that the kingdom is on its way to increase its oil production capacity by more than one million barrels per day to more than 13 million barrels per day by the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027.

OPEC estimates that the daily demand for crude oil by 2027 will be approximately 105 million barrels per day, which means that producers need additional investments in the oil industry to meet demand.

But before this date, Biden needs to pass the midterm elections successfully, as expectations indicate that he will resort to the last card in the energy sector, represented by the abolition of the federal tax on fuel, which amounts to approximately 18.4 cents per liter.

The US president’s clash in the energy sector was not limited to the Gulf countries, but the production of American energy companies had a share in this, as he accused them of profiting in a difficult global economic circumstance.

On Saturday evening, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan told reporters: “We listen to our partners and friends from all over the world, especially oil-consuming countries, but in the end, OPEC follows the market situation and provides energy supplies as needed.”

The White House said Thursday that Biden will meet with the Saudi crown prince in Jeddah “without the presence of King (Salman bin Abdulaziz),” according to the American “CNN” network on Friday.

According to Biden’s schedule, the Saudi monarch will only attend about 30 minutes of bilateral meetings on Friday evening, provided that the US president and the crown prince continue their meeting after the king’s departure, according to the American network.

In this context, CNN indicated that King Salman’s “expected” absence from the meetings is due to his health condition.

On Friday evening, Biden arrives in Saudi Arabia on a direct and unprecedented trip between Israel and the Kingdom.

Until Friday noon, the White House did not officially announce the full schedule of Biden’s visit to Saudi Arabia.

On Saturday, the city of Jeddah will host an Arab-American summit attended by the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Jordan, with the participation of the US President and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi.

The summit was organized on the occasion of Biden’s visit to Saudi Arabia, on his first foreign trip to the Middle East since taking office in January 2021, and he started on Wednesday with a visit to Israel.
