The United Nations Food Program announced on Monday that at least 25 million people are suffering from “high rates of hunger and malnutrition” in Sudan.

The program said in a statement: “The crisis in Sudan is sending shock waves throughout the region, with thousands of families displaced and forced to cross the border into Chad and South Sudan every week.”

He stated that the impact of the conflict includes three countries: Sudan, South Sudan and Chad, “and has created the largest displacement crisis in the world,” and noted that “the devastating hunger catastrophe is approaching as food and nutrition needs rise throughout the three countries.”

He also added: “There are 18 million people suffering from acute food insecurity inside the country, and about 3.8 million Sudanese children under the age of five suffer from malnutrition, most of whom are trapped in areas of ongoing fighting.”

The statement quoted World Food Program Regional Director for East Africa Michael Dunford as saying: “Children and women who cross into South Sudan or Chad suffer from hunger and arrive without resources.”

He added: “We need to be able to provide support to families in Sudan to avoid turning the largest displacement crisis in the world into a hunger disaster.”

He pointed out that rates of hunger and acute malnutrition have increased in Sudan since the outbreak of the conflict in mid-April last year.

He also pointed out that the World Food Program faces a funding gap of about 300 million US dollars during the next six months.

Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemedti” have been waging a war.

It left more than 13,000 dead and more than 7 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the initiative to transport grains across the Black Sea, which his country launched in cooperation with the United Nations, prevented the risk of a global famine crisis by ensuring that 33 million tons of grain products were shipped to global markets thanks to the initiative.

This came in a video message he sent on Monday to the “World Food Day 2023” program, which is held under the slogan “Water is life, and water means food.”

Erdogan explained that Turkey, as a water-stressed country, strives to use its resources in the most efficient way.

He added that the recent wars and conflicts witnessed in the geographical area in which Turkey is located have deepened the food crisis.

He stressed that his country is continuing its efforts to reduce the burden on regions at risk of famine, especially Africa.

He continued: “We do not see any difference between protecting our waters and protecting our homeland, and for this purpose we, as a government, have implemented many important projects over the past 21 years that will ensure the water and food security of our country.”

He added: “This year, we renewed our strategy and action plan to combat drought, and in addition to agricultural irrigation, we are continuing our efforts to reduce the amount of water used in industry and individual consumption. We call on our citizens and all of humanity to conserve water.”

President Erdogan pointed out that humanity is gradually moving away from the “Zero Hunger by 2030” approach, which is one of the most important goals of the United Nations for sustainable development.

He continued: “According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization, one in every 9 people in the world suffers from hunger. 127 tons of food are produced every second around the world, but 21 tons of it are wasted, and this number is enough to feed 735 million people who are currently suffering from hunger 4 times”.

He pointed out that wasting food causes rapid consumption of water resources.

He added: “I would like to point out that Turkey, which is one of the most generous countries in the world with regard to development aid, will not hesitate to take responsibility for resolving the food and water crisis.”

The head of the Group of 24 countries, Adama Kulibari, called on Tuesday for canceling the debts of poor countries, especially African ones.

This came in a speech delivered by Kulibari, who is also the Minister of Finance of Côte d’Ivoire, during a press conference held by the Group of 24 concerned with international monetary affairs and development during the meetings of the International Monetary Fund in Morocco.

He said that poor countries suffer from a problem in financing their economies, especially African ones. “If we do not find sufficient funding, how will Africa achieve progress?”

He added: “The group needs easy conditions to access international financing, especially since many countries find it difficult to obtain this financing.”

Founded in 1971, the group includes 29 countries, not 24 as it is called, with new members joining.

The members are: Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico.

It also includes Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, China, India, Iran, Lebanon, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Syria; It also includes 4 countries and 11 other international and international organizations as observers.

The value of the external debt of poor and middle-income countries jumped to 8 trillion and 700 billion dollars, which is its highest level ever, according to World Bank estimates.

This year, 91 of the poorest countries in the world will be forced to use 16 percent of their revenues to pay off part of their debts due to the sharp rise in global loan costs, according to the bank.

The annual fall meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund this year began on Monday, from October 9 to 15, in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh.

In 8 months of this year, the Turkish state of Muğla received 2,429,981 foreign tourists.

According to data from the state’s Tourism Directorate relating to the first 8 months of the year, British tourists ranked first, with their number reaching 1,23,554 tourists (40 percent of the total number of tourists).

As for the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Marmaris Chamber of Commerce, Mutlu Ayhan, he said: “We have begun tourism advertising work for the year 2024. We will take our place in tourism exhibitions, especially in our most important markets, which are Britain, as well as Poland, Denmark, and Germany.”

Muğla occupies second place after the “tourism capital” Antalya in terms of the number of beaches that have won the “Blue Flag”, especially in its districts “Bodrum”, “Marmaris”, “Fethiye”, “Daca”, “Milas”, “Ortaga” and “Olu”. “.

“Blue Flag” is a trademark owned by the non-profit, non-governmental Environmental Education Foundation, which consists of 65 organizations in 60 countries from Europe, Africa, Oceania, Asia, North America and South America.

The famous tourist district of Bodrum in Muğla maintains its important position in terms of the number of beaches awarded with the “Blue Flag”, which makes it an indispensable choice for local and foreign tourists.

The coasts of Muğla overlooking the Aegean Sea are full of bays that combine the blue of the sea and green nature, and are equipped with ports for docking luxury yachts owned by wealthy Turkish and foreign businessmen and people.

The state of Muğla, along with Antalya, is also one of the most prominent tourist destinations in Turkey, as it receives the largest share of foreign tourists coming to the country annually.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal expressed appreciation for Turkey’s mediation efforts in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

This came in a press conference held on Thursday, on the sidelines of the “Ukraine Recovery Conference 2023”, which is being hosted by the British capital, London.

“We are grateful for the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which is supported by Turkey, and this initiative has brought grain to the entire world, Middle Eastern countries, African and European countries,” Shmyhal said.

In response to a question about Turkish mediation in the Russian-Ukrainian war, Shmyhal said: “Turkey is a neighboring country and a very important partner for us.”

The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts of all partners and allies supporting Ukraine, adding that his country is once again fighting for its freedom and life.

Shmyhal confirmed that his country will liberate all internationally recognized Ukrainian lands since 1991.

He added, “We appreciate all the efforts of Turkey, its president (Recep Tayyip Erdogan), the Turkish government and allies, and we hope to reach peace in my country with Europe, the United States and the United Kingdom.”

In July 2022, Turkey, the United Nations, Russia and Ukraine signed an agreement in Istanbul to resume grain exports from Ukrainian ports, which were temporarily suspended after the start of the Russian war in February 2022, in order to address the global food crisis.

The agreement, which was extended several times, allowed the export of more than 30 million metric tons of grain and foodstuffs from Ukraine. On May 18, the agreement was extended for an additional 60 days, ensuring the continuation of grain exports.
