Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that the Libyan government has informed Ankara of its adherence to the memorandum of understanding concluded between the two countries in the field of hydrocarbons.

This came in a statement he made in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, which he is visiting on Thursday, in which he touched on the decision of the Tripoli court to stop the implementation of the memorandum of understanding in the field of hydrocarbon resources (oil and natural gas) signed between the two countries.

Çavuşoğlu stated that Ankara immediately contacted the Libyan Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid al-Dabiba, following the decision issued by the Tripoli Court of Appeal last Tuesday.

He stated that the two sides signed the memorandum during his visit to Tripoli on October 3, 2022, indicating that, like the rest of the memorandums of understanding that Libya signed with other countries, it does not need to be passed by parliament.

He added, “The court decided to stay execution. This is a decision, not a final ruling. The (Libyan) government informed us of its adherence to the memorandum and its close follow-up. As a result, this cooperation agreement is very important for Libya as well.”
