This came in his speech during an event held in a secondary school in Istanbul on the occasion of the start of the new academic year.

He stressed that education was the first pillar that the AKP governments sought to advance when they came to power 20 years ago, and then health, security and justice.

He said, “We have never given up our priority in education, whatever the circumstances, and we have allocated the largest share of the budget annually to education.”

He added, “We doubled the number of classrooms, solved the problem of overcrowding, increased the number of teachers by hiring 750,000 new teachers, modernizing schools, and raising the number of gyms to 11,860, and the number of laboratories to 52,870.”
